At Oz Fresh Herbs we’ve been using Bio Plastics Bio film since 2012. We use the 15 and 20um film, 20um lasting a bit longer in summer for our heirloom tomatoes that we plant in September and finish up in April. We also use large quantities of film for our edible flower and herbs, both fields grown and under crop cover protection.

We have been using the Aussie made biofilm supplied to us by AUSTALIAN BIO-PLASTISC since October 2022. WOW! what a God send. We haven't had to change our laying machinery, or go to any extra expense. The really big benefit is at end of crop cycle. We simply plough it in.
How easy is that!

Despite it being more expensive up front and after me putting in my pickup and disposal costs, it is actually cheaper than the traditional PE film. If you hire cartage contractors and pay the tip fees, it works out to be far more expensive. Save yourself heaps of work, time, expense, and you're doing your bit for the environment.

  • Frequently Asked Questions

Our FAQ section is designed to provide clear, concise
answers to the most common queries.

  • What is Mater-bi™ ABP Agricultural Mulch Film?

Mater-Bi™ is an innovative family of bioplastics, that uses components obtained from plants, such as cellulose, glycerin, natural fillers and non-GMO starch obtained from various crops. Mater-Bi™ comes in granular form, and is processed to create products similar to those of traditional plastics, but are biodegradable and compostable (AS4736-2006, UNI EN 13432).

  • Are starch ingredients obtained from GMOs to produce Mater-Bi™?

Mater-Bi™ is made sourcing and using only non GMO natural raw materials (such as starch). Whenever, the GMO origin cannot be excluded because additives are sourced in markets and geographical areas where GMO organisms are already grown, Novamont takes part to off-set programs in order to assure the growth of non-GMO crops proportionally to the additives.

  • How may I recognise a biodegradable agricultural mulch film?

Biodegradable logo is certificated according to biodegradability and compostability certifications, based on international standard such as EN13432-2002, AS 4736-2006, ASTM  D6400 and D6868, ISO 17088 and ISO 18606.

  • Is Biodegradable Fim more expensive than Polyeurethene Film?

Up front the initial cost of Biodegradable Film is more expensive. It evens out at end of crop cycle. Saving you Time, Money and the environment.

  • There was a time when the introduction of modern plastics into the agriculture industry was seen as a wholly positive development – relatively cheap and highly durable, plastic mulch film and plastic wrapping were in high demand and in use on the vast majority of farms. Somewhat ironically, however, it is plastics resistance to breaking down that is now regarded as its greatest shortcoming, and recent studies indicate that nearly 100,000 tons of plastic waste are generated within Australian agriculture every year, and of this approximately 40% is plastic mulch film that is either buried or burnt in the absence of any feasible recycling options.

Today there is a wide recognition of the damage that this causes to the environment and in large numbers, farmers are turning to sustainable farming materials, and at Australian Bio-Plastics we supply a wide range of completely biodegradable materials that offer all of the benefits associated with plastic but with none of the headaches associated with agricultural plastic waste disposal. Our Australian made products are manufactured from Mater-Bi, an innovative material that is made up of organic constituents such as cellulose, glycerin and non GMO starches, that when processed offer all the ease of working with plastic film – in fact it can be applied with your standard equipment, there is no need for costly upgrades or alterations.

Your actual productivity can increase with the use of our compostable farming plastics, as unlike standard plastic mulch film, our product is breathable and minimises the risk of damage to young crops and seedlings – and at the end of the cycle there are no costs associated with the collection and disposal of the film as it will begin the process of degrading back into organic, non-toxic elements that only enhance the environment.

Whether you are a small-scale agriculturist or operate a large-scale concern, our products represent the future of farming materials and alongside a selection of mulch films in varying thicknesses and widths we also supply landfill biodegradable silage wrap in 1500m rolls and silage netting in 3000m rolls. Additionally, we can supply landfill biodegradable bubble wrap, stretch wrap and pallet strapping for use in your logistics facility or warehouse.

The move to sustainable farming practices is gathering momentum as more and more operators seek zero waste farming materials and consequently there are strict criteria that have to be met for products to receive authentic approval , and unlike some products on the market which make unsubstantiated claims, our products meet both Australian and international standards (AS4736-2006 and EN13432).

We stand by the efficacy and integrity of our animal and environmentally friendly farming materials, and should you wish to order a sample before you commit to buy in earnest, we are more than happy to oblige; for bulk orders simply contact us via email or phone and we can arrange delivery of your choice of product anywhere across the country.

We urge you to join the revolution, today, and play your part in responsible, sustainable and highly practical farming today with Australian Bio-Plastics range of biodegradable materials.
